Spencer Bailey is the co-founder of the media company The Slowdown and co-host of the Time Sensitive podcast. He is also editor-at-large of book publisher Phaidon and a contributing editor at Town & Country magazine. A writer, editor, journalist, and strategist, he has has written at length about architecture, art, culture, design, and technology for publications such as The New York Times Magazine, Fortune, Newsweek, and Bloomberg Businessweek.
From mid-2013 to mid-2018, Bailey was editor-in-chief of Surface magazine. He has interviewed hundreds of leading architects, artists, designers, and others, including David Adjaye, Tadao Ando, Zaha Hadid, Frank Gehry, Ian Schrager, and Kanye West. Bailey is a trustee of the Noguchi Museum in Queens, New York. He also serves on the New York honorary committee of the L’Ecole jewelry-making school, which is supported by Van Cleef & Arpels. He is a visiting faculty member at the School of Visual Arts, where he teaches a workshop in the Design Research master’s program.
